Experience the life of a Civil War cavalryman—an army horse soldier on the
American frontier—from the horse he rode to the weapons he carried, at the Maine
Cavalry School.
Join others who share your
interest in horsemanship and history for a weekend or a full week of adventure
and fun, learning about and living the life of those who served our country
during a difficult time in United States history.
Programs will be available
from April through October, 2011, at the Oak Hill Equestrian Center on over 40
wooded acres of privately-owned land in Poland, Maine.
A highlight of each program
is the field study in horsemanship which is so important to a full understanding
of cavalry life. But there’s so much more. With the beautiful Maine countryside
as backdrop, you’ll learn—through study and hands-on practice—what everyday life
was like for the mounted cavalry soldier.
* Classes taught by experts
in the fields of horsemanship, armaments and Civil War history.
* Novice as well as
experienced riders are welcome. Dismounted cavalrymen also welcome.
